Tokorozawa Aviation Museum

Inside the building shaped like a jet engine, the museum displays aircraft and helicopters that were actually used, including the first successful domestically produced aircraft, Kai-shiki No. 1.

In addition, there is a large video hall showing model animations and the Tokorozawa Memorial Gallery, which introduces the history of Tokorozawa and its role as the birthplace of aviation.

Japan’s first airfield, the “Temporary Military Balloon Research Institute Tokorozawa Test Center,” was established in April 1911, where Japanese aviation research, aircraft manufacturing, and aviation education began. In 1993, an exhibition hall was opened in Tokorozawa Aviation Memorial Park to commemorate this “birthplace of aviation in Japan.

This exhibition hall takes advantage of its location in Tokorozawa Aviation Memorial Park to display a number of actual aircraft, making it a distinctive exhibit. It is equipped with a large screening facility, showing works related to the sky and science on a large screen measuring 15 meters in length and 20 meters in width. Also on display is a simulated flight simulator, as well as the history of aviation in Japan and around the world. In addition, visitors can experience gravity using a sports walker.

In the exhibition hall, visitors can experience the history of aviation in Japan based in Tokorozawa and the principles of flight through experiments and equipment. The exhibits are designed to arouse interest in aviation and provide visitors with an enticing gateway to aviation.

Visitors can also see YS-11 and C-46 aircraft on display outdoors.
