The museum introduces mainly bonsai, but also bonsai vessels, suiseki, paintings, and historical materials.
The collection exhibited here is explained from various angles, including bonsai, trayware, suiseki, paintings, and historical and folklore materials, in order to convey the beauty and artistry of bonsai.
In the Collection Gallery, explanatory panels on bonsai are displayed along with a prologue panel introducing the collection.
Visitors then proceed to the gallery where bonsai are displayed in five seating areas, and finally to the three seating areas where bonsai, suiseki, and calligraphy (hanging scrolls) are displayed.
The bonsai garden always has about 60 bonsai on display, allowing visitors to enjoy the beauty of the four seasons.
There is also a place where visitors can view the bonsai from a 360-degree angle, allowing them to observe the difference between the front and back of the bonsai.
The museum’s most prominent five-leaf pine bonsai, “Chiyo-no-Matsu,” is displayed on a rotating display stand to regulate the amount of sunlight it receives. The bonsai terrace on the second floor of the main building offers a panoramic view of the bonsai garden.
